A couple of frugal Vermonters that were able to retire early and enjoy life.
We bought our 22' Airstream International AS brand new in 2002. As of 2020 we've towed "The Luv Sub" over 81,000 miles in our nineteen seasons of camping. Our channel will take you along on our travels, show you some "How To" videos based upon what we've learned, and highlight the fun and fellowship that comes with attending rallies with the Wally Byam Airstream Club. Occasionally, we'll throw in a random travel video or two as well as our "Cooking with Cindy" playlist.

As always, informative and fun to watch. There are shakedown trips, but we're currently in Newfoundland and Labrador having a shakeup trip. 😊
Thank Rich! You two are so helpful. I appreciate it! I just cleaned that seal. Now I’m onto the AC. Glad to find this video.
Spragues looked pretty awesome to me.
Luv Subbin makes another contribution to the RV canon of RUclips greats! I wish I'd had this video to prepare me when we picked up our rig ...
Thanks so much for watching and the super nice comment! You totally made our day to refer to our content as being part of the "RV Canon". Safe travels...
We loved your titles and music that reckons back to silent movies! 😍Great tips you guys! OMG. There are so many people who do not know how to merge in to highway traffic anymore. Very fun video as always. We love EVERY Tuesday because it means we get to see you! Michelle
Thanks guys! C had fun with the silent movie theme. And you are so right - no one knows how to merge onto an Interstate - regardless of the state. Have fun in the U.P.
We just got a text from Cindy’s parents. We consider them the greatest Airstreamers ever - they are indeed the original Airstream G.O.A.T.s. They said our tips were spot on. If they approve, you know you can rely on them. Safe travels.
So important to do recon ahead of time!!! Drivers Meeting!!!! It helps to be on the same page with routes and alternates! Sewer supports I thought were unnecessary until I used them. Spare keys! Maybe not right away, but once the weather turns and you need the furnace, you prob want a dehumidifer and some way to get airflow under the mattress… hmmm…. putting in a request for a future episode!!!!!! 😊❤😂 Thank you guys!!!!
Thanks so much for watching! Those are all great tips and we will certainly keep them in mind.
Mr. Love Sub, I’d like to add one very important must have - a tire plug kit… its as essential as having diesel in your 6.7 tank!! Also, your mirrors - are they manual? I watch you grab them and pull…just curious - mine are power - Thanks!!
Thanks for watching! That's very interesting. I've never carried a tire plug kit. My theory has always been that the spare will get me to where I need to go and a tire shop can make the repair. Maybe I need to rethink that.... Regarding the mirrors, yes they are manual. Our truck does not have the Max Payload Package and came with standard mirrors. I had the dealer add them before taking delivery. The manual mirrors were $850 and the powered ones were something like $2,300. I remember telling the salesman "For that amount of money I can pull them in and out myself".
@@LuvSubbin I’ve had many times the spare was junk, or two tires got hit with nails, etc. and having the plug kit saved the day. Gotcha- you have manual mirrors. Be well, drive safe!!
Great tips as USUAL 🍻
Thanks for watching and the awesome "USUAL" comment - we really appreciate it. Hopefully this video will be useful to folks.
Great tips!!!
Thanks for watching! We hope this video will help someone just buying an RV. Maybe even a seasoned RV'er will get a tip or two...
Cindy & Rich, I believe you might have been the ones who recommended this to me, but y’all did not mention it in this video. I was told to request to spend the night at the dealership to make sure everything worked before we left the lot. That was eye opening for me. I travel solo a lot, so backing the trailer involves a lot of getting out and looking. Fortunately for me the state parks and COE’s that I have stayed do not have many tight spots that I have not been able to navigate. Safe travels
Thanks Cotton Tales! Funny you mention staying at the dealership. We are terrible at Voiceovers and hate doing them. It usually requires multiple takes. This time was no exception. We absolutely mentioned staying at the dealership but that take must have been deleted and we forgot to say it in what made the video. Oh well...
unreal . 📽
Thanks for watching! Real. 🎥
Great info I was wondering have you ever had a lug nut loose checking them that often ?
Thanks for watching! Whenever I take my wheels off to pack the bearings or change tires, I absolutely see a loosening and the need to tighten per the intervals. Honestly, in between that I don't see any loosening. But stay tuned to next week because we came upon a stranded Airstreamer that lost his entire wheel going down the road...
@@LuvSubbin 😯
Happy Tuesday! The best day of the week! Great information and always a good reminder, even for seasoned travelers.
Thanks for watching and the super nice comment! I know we geared this for the first time buyer but we hope there is a tidbit for everyone. We like Tuesdays too...
I think you meant a 25' extension cord to have a total of 50'. In 2024 I think a rear view camera is a better option than towing mirrors. I have absolutely no blind spot using my stock mirrors and the csmera. It also helps with backing.
Thanks for watching! Yes, that's what I meant - 25' extension for a total of 50'. I will, however, stand by my recommendation of tow mirrors. My previous tow vehicle was a 2001 F-150 and didn't have the tow mirrors. Having had both, I would never, ever go back and consider them one of the most significant safety upgrades we have made to our rig. Also, we have friends that relied on their back-up cam while backing up and struck a fence post causing significant damage. C is much better than any camera... 😀
Second 👍
Thanks for watching and total Bummer. If this becomes an issue, we'll collaborate and I'll secretly drop at 4:59 PM...
Will watch later... 😀
Thanks guys! We know you guys are experienced but hopefully there will be an interesting tidbit...
So glad you enjoyed Hampton Beach! I grew up in town and moved back about 10 years ago. Was in upper New York state over the weekend and met a couple that didn't know NH has a seacoast. They don't know what they are missing. ;) And Petey's Summertime! Petey's has the best (my opinion) fried seafood too!
Thanks for watching! Yes, we love the New Hampshire seacoast and were glad to finally stay at the State Park. Like you, we've even met folks that didn't know where Vermont was. I usually explain that it's one of those little states near Canada...
2 Tbs per gal.
Help. I can’t even move the bars in the sockets.
Thanks for watching! The bars should move once inserted in the sockets. If it were me, I would spray some WD-40 or other penetrating oil onto the socket surfaces. Let it sit for a few minutes and then try to move them. Once they move, then you can properly lubricate them with grease. I hope that helps.
Thank You. It's extremely important to sanitize every component of a potable water system. Someone somewhere needed this information.
One of the best of my 1960's memories: A&W Rootbeer frosty mug, Root Beer Float for dessert.. Lawd have mercy!
Thanks for watching and we're glad we were able to bring back some memories.
Best easy hack ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching! And the best part is that it is not easy to forget you have done that - not like removing the batteries or taking it entirely off the ceiling.
Great video…. I think the water tasting experiment may have been biased…. I think the samples should have been blinded from the investigator…. C knew what she was drinking during the taste test! I’d suggest a blinded control of a filtered sample, non-filtered, and a control sample of bottled water. The battery portion of the video was flawless! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Mike - spoken like a true man of science. More interesting battery stuff to come (spoiler alert - we were almost left stranded on the New York State Thruway).
Comment you made about DC to DC charge is it worth the money. Biggest reason I wanted that DC to DC add on is running 120 AC mode on the road and keeping fidge cold. I pull 20 dc amp average for F150 and 6 hour drive fully charged airstream. 😂 Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! We're rethinking the DC to DC charging after nearly being stranded on the New York State Thruway. I totally don't understand it but this was our first long tow in hot weather and our truck wouldn't start after fueling. We needed to be jumped. Was it the lithium battery draining the truck battery? I don't know but it is an unusual coincidence...
We never travel without our Berkey. It is well worth the space it takes. Great video…you just may get us on the lithium bandwagon.
Thanks for watching and we know many people that love their Berkey. Maybe someday. After all, it took us 22 years to change battery chemistries...
Interesting information about Vermont parks rules about running a generator. Good to know! We like A&W too. We have them in Michigan too. Ahh Cindy, you looked so cute in your winter hat by the fire place. I love how many lights and fans you were running at the same time, boon docking! Yay! 😍 The winery looks fun, and delicious. Do you not have Michigan colored in our your shirt Cindy? Come see us in Michigan!!! Miss you guys! - Jim & Michelle
HI guys! Thanks for watching! Of course we have Michigan - it might just be colored in a light pen. We loved the Keweenaw Peninsula and the Soo Locks. There's so much in Michigan we want to see... Literally I think we could spend months there. Hope all is well and that we'll see you down the road soon.
Yes southwest Kansas is flat. I grew up in Norton and spent years fishing at Prairie Dog State Park. The lake is named Keith Sebelius Lake. It is not flat in that part of Kansas, it is rolling hills. The windmill is a nonfunctioning piece to go with the sod house. The park employees have always done an excellent job of keeping the park and sites clean. It can be extremely busy especially on weekends. The prairie dogs are fun to watch but as a farmer we don't like them. As long as they stay in the park they're good.
Thanks for watching! We loved our time in Kansas and Prairie Dog State Park. Plus, that windmill was so unusual (for a couple of Vermonters)...
@@LuvSubbin We have always had windmills. We still have one functioning one that pumps water for the cattle. My farm is just south 10 miles and a few miles west of the lake. All of my family's farms had multiple windmills. Most of them have been replaced by electric pumps. Here is a fun fact, we kept goldfish in our water stock tank by the windmill. This was to keep the tank clean and to keep the overflow tube clean so the water would flow down hill to tha larger tank in the pasture. Thanks for the video it's not often I see ones about where I grew up!
Thanks for sharing the boondocking adventures of Amp Man and Watt Woman! ⚡️⚡️
Thanks for watching and the awesome comment! We've had fun with me being Amp Man but always referred to Cindy as the beautiful and powerful superheroine "Parasitic Draw". But Watt Women is 100X better! We may steal that...
Lost me at pilot light fail. Thank you for saving me time and $$ on this
Thanks for watching! Yup, we consider that stove a complete mistake. We're able to "work with it" but that should not be the case. I would replace it in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises...
Kind of fun perspective: in one part of your video you're embracing new technology and tinkering with your Zamp and lithium setup - in the same video you're celebrating the nostalgia of the old-style A&W. Fun vibe and I like the way y'all roll! FYI I have a Zamp 190 and a 100ah LifePo4 on my rig. When I'm boondocking I can usually go 4-5 days before I need to use the generator to help it top up.
Thanks for watching and we loved your comment! We love all things - the modern and the historical. That's what is great about the RV - we can explore both...
Ummm... I know at least two people who encouraged you to go lithium!!! Amp Man 😂 So glad it is working out for you!
Thanks Denise! Okay, you guys were totally right. Now I have to talk with Steve about DC to DC charging as I think I may be wrong on that...
Very reasonable!
Thanks for watching! We super happy with how things worked out...
First, great video. The charging from the truck, as I understand it will only charge to about 85 or 90%. The 7 way does not supple a voltage high enough to top off a Lithium Battery. You would need to install a DC to DC charger, to get the necessary voltage from the truck.
I have Lithium batteries and have installed them yet. But I also have 2, 90 watt Zamp roof top panels. I think that will solve that problem while driving!
@@Fox40-MD That has worked for me. But last year had 3 days of clouds and rain, needed to run the generator.
Thanks for watching! I'm re-thinking the DC to DC charger. Like everything I do, it will take time and data but I am not throwing that one out yet...
We used to go to A&W a little over 50 years ago. At that time they served various size hamburgers called the Baby Burger, Momma Burger and Papa Burger. They also served their root beer in glass mugs and were a huge chain around the US. I decided to try one of their hamburgers again approximately seven years ago for nostalgia and got food poisoning. I know everybody has a different opinion, but personally I would rather have a Double-Double from In-n-Out any day. Keep up the great videos guys!!
Thanks so much for watching! OMG, so sorry you got food poisoning. If ever you're in Vermont, I can vouch for the one in Middlebury and would suggest giving them a second chance. We liked In-n-Out as well (I think it was Utah where we visited one). Safe travels!
Grand Rapids Mi! Great brew city!
Thanks for watching! We love Michigan and totally have plans to do the Mitten correctly. We will do some brew tasting at Grand Rapids without a doubt. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@LuvSubbin Well, the offer is open to moochdock in our driveway for the Coast Guard Festival next year. Happy to take you guys on a beer tour of Beer City USA (Grand Rapids, MI)!!!!
@@leoreap2703 We'll see how next year goes but we certainly appreciate the invitation. A Coast Guard city known for great beer? This might be the greatest place ever...
Hi guys did you do a video on your trip to Island Pond SP. I missed if you you did. We Stayed there in 2021 on our trip to the east coast from Oregon. Thanks for the great videos.
Thanks for watching! Yes, we did. In fact, if you watch the end screen of our videos the Loon call was captured at Island Pond. Here's the link ruclips.net/video/niYbBwtuhyM/видео.html
Regarding you getting no voltage from the truck, I’ve read you have to start the truck, close door, apply brakes at least once and you should detect voltage. I’m curious if you get any readings with this method.
Thanks for watching! Hmmm... Okay, I'm going to try this. Even if you're making that up, we'll all get a good laugh. Details to follow... 😀
@@LuvSubbin honestly, I’ve read this on F150 forums. I may not have the order right. But I have read that a few times. Not joking. I will try to find more precise info!
It's funny what you said about A&W having the best burger because we were camping in Indiana and we stopped at an A&W and I said the exact same thing! It was the best burger I ever had!
Thanks for watching! We're glad to hear that. Sometimes, simplicity works. A&W doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a Guy Fieri or some 8" tall gourmet Wagu smash burger but it just works... Classic deliciousness.
A&W is not in Alabama, but we stopped at Savannah, TN when we visited a Civil War battlefield and had a burger. The pizza looked amazing Cindy. I like them thin and crispy! So happy to hear the battery worked well for y’all. Safe travels
Thanks Cotton Tales! We love our roadside attractions - whether it's food or something else.
Amp Man! Curious; did you use your a/c at all? Oh, and the hanging light over the dinette table, where did you get that? Great video you two!
Thanks for watching! We did not use our a/c because the goal of this trip was to not use the generator. We have a Micro Air Easy Start and have used the a/c with our Honda eu2000i generator before. The light over the dinette is a "wok kettle pendant light" from lightology.com I'm not sure they still make that exact one but they have similar 12V versions. The great thing about that pendant light is that it unscrews at the base so we remove it on travel days so that it doesn't swing around.
First 😂
NICE! And thanks for being the first one to watch our video. We hope that you and the others behind you enjoy it.
Love it
Thanks for watching! Our Kuppet beats the laundromat any day...
Thanks for the video. I removed the jet and sprayed it out with carb cleaner. It must have been clogged. It was visibly more clear. Reinstalled and the flame sounds like you can grill a steak on it! Letting it run on propane overnight and will check temperature. I’m confident that this was the issue
Thanks for watching! We hope our video was helpful. Leave a comment because we're interested if it worked for you like it did for us.
A teenagers nightmare!! 😂
Science can be fun (okay, maybe still a teenager's nightmare).
Killer Angels: "It's like reading a novel." Well, that's because it IS a novel. It's very popular, and maybe it's a good recommendation for your audience, but it's also slanted strongly toward the Virginia point of view and only relates the highlights of the battle. And the film that adapts the novel leaves out even more. For example, you can't really understand the battle without knowing the role Dan Sickles played, against orders, in advancing his corps ahead of the Union line on the second day. He abandoned Little Round Top to move to the Peach Orchard, which is why Warren, Vincent, Chamberlain, and more scrambled to defend it. The film ignores Sickles's movement entirely. I don't recall how much the book says on the topic, but I suspect not much. I read Jeff Shaara's novel, Last Full Measure, and found it full of Lost Cause neo-Confederate nonsense. I wouldn't make the mistake of reading another of his books. Aside from these criticisms, I enjoyed your video.
Thanks for watching and your thoughtful comments. Very true about Dan Sickles (and his smashed leg). From what I recall, he was a New York politician/lawyer with little military skills. I've read a boatload of Shaara's books from all of the major wars he has written about. Yes, it's fiction but still very enjoyable...
@@LuvSubbin Thanks for the gracious reply. I've seen Sickles's leg bones at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Silver Spring, MD. Apparently he'd take friends to visit them every July 2 (at a different site in his day). He may be the most colorful character in the Civil War, but not in a good way.
I have a question about when you put the arms in and move them back and forth (around the 8:30 mark). Mine do not move at all. Am I supposed to loosen the bolt so that they do move? This is my first (everything) equalizer hitch. It almost looks like it's soldered there where yours moves freely. We bought our trailer at Camping World and they installed the hitch. Thank you for your great video.
Thanks for watching! The arms should definitely move. The folks from Equal-i-zer invited us to tour their factory. While touring, I specifically asked how tight the nut at the bottom of the arm should be. They said between 60 and 100 ft/lb. I torque mine to 80 ft/lb. You will find that when hitching and unhitching, moving the arms are an important part of getting them onto the L brackets. Here's the link to the video where we toured the factory. The part that should be of interest to you is at 4:07. ruclips.net/video/mHXth1kspyI/видео.html
Congrats on the battery upgrade. Perhaps someday we will make the leap to lithium, just haven’t seen a need just yet. Safe travels.
Thanks guys! So far so good. We tested it for four days of boondocking and never fell below 69% and that included hooking up Starlink to our inverter and downloading this video.
American made is definitely the way to go! Thank you for all the informative videos, love your channel.
Thanks so much for watching and the super nice comment on our videos. Yes, supporting American workers is important to us. While I was on the phone with them, they invited us to tour their facility so hopefully we can do that (plus, Reno sounds like fun).
The boat motor is water cooled, hence the strainer. Why would you be looking for green coolant?
@@coincollector315 Thanks for watching! The water takes the place of a radiator in a car engine. There is still coolant in the engine but heat is removed from it as it passes through a raw water heat exchanger. So the raw water is cooling the coolant; not the engine directly.
